Obsess Over Everything

Posts tagged Fashion

So I’m not the only artist in the family.  My sister happens to be the best videographer I’ve ever encountered.  Seriously, I’ve scoured Vimeo trying to find an equal to her editing that will push you to cry, feel butterflies, and embrace a sudden surge of inspiration….. all within three minutes.

Recently we went to Las Vegas and I took some photos of her for her blog, Heart + Camera.  She has a way with cameras, whether it be used for video or one single snapshot.  So take a look, and if you want to see some of her videos go to Cabana Pictures Blog.  It’s where both her and her husband post videos and blurbs from their life as videographers.

Banana Woman

My latest Photoshop experiment is a banana lady.  I’ve been wanting to make a lot of ladies with screenprinting, but this is the easiest way to do it.  Maybe a painting will come next but for now this is it!

Steps:

Made her sketch by hand.

Scanned into photoshop and then inked it out.

Color filled everything and added shading

Drew parts to go into the pattern.  Made a fill pattern and that was that.  Pattern Circle

It’s that time of the year where I begin wearing long sleeves and all black again.  That’s right: Fall is almost here!  I was shocked when I stepped outside.  Here was my outfit for the occasion.

Jacket: Forever 21 DIY denim jacket

Shoes: Dr. Martens

Pants: BDG

Necklace: Nameplate gold necklace

Shirt: Michael Stars

Earrings: Forever 21

Bag: Aldo

Ring: Thrift store find

My latest obsession is the studded jacket.  Well, it isn’t the latest but it’s the one that I’ve most recently accomplished.  See, the thing is that I’ve been loving punk fashion since I was about 13 years old.  All that time in between I’ve been wanting and craving for a chance to go and wear it.  Those chances have been available for so long but now I’ve finally done it.  The other thing is: I don’t like silver.  I’m a gold kind of girl so I needed some gold studs.  That’s where the whole stud craze came in.  Since everyone is going mad about spikes, the market finally opened for gold studs.  Yay!   Ok enough talk here’s my outfit:

Jacket: Forever 21

Shoes: Cole Haan

Socks: TJ Maxx

Shirt: H&M

Necklaces: My own gold nameplate necklace and a Medic Alert Coin pendant (NOT FOR FASHION PURPOSES.  PLEASE DO NOT WEAR THIS AS AN ACCESSORY UNLESS NEEDED)

Skirt: Urban Outfitters

Earrings: Betsey Johnson

This is something new I want to try.  I’ve always loved looking at street style on blogs.  In person I do it too and call it by something a little different (AKA people watching).  So, in my little city of Pittsburgh I believe there to be a a huge amount of totally rad street style.  Here’s my plan: to update you weekly on different neighborhoods or events I go to.  Now, the whole world will know that Pittsburgh has just about the coolest and most unique set of people.

This past Thursday, I competed in a live Style-Off for Project Style in Pittsburgh.  It was hosted by the Robinson Mall and was INTENSE.  First of all, I’ve never been a competitive person.  Somehow, I found a part of myself that was determined to win and it basically enveloped every other part of me.  I was so excited and prepared by looking though magazines, shopping around the mall beforehand, and of course trying everything on (which I never do).

Here’s how it went down:

  • You arrive in the outfit you were wearing in the previous round.
  • You are given a $200 gift card to the mall to shop for a new outfit
  • There’s a twist!  Each one of us were given an accessory that we had to incorporate into our outfits.  Mine was a cheetah scarf I used as a shirt
  • Put on your outfit and RUN back to the stage to show it off.  Answer a few questions and you’re done!
  • THE PRIZE: If I won this, I would receive $1000 to shop and a chance to move onto the next round of Project Style: a national competition with a prize of going to NY Fashion Week.

Before I continue, I need to say this:

Showing off our original outfits. I’m the tiny one all the way on the left

Shoes: Forever 21

Pants: Forever 21

Shirt: Made from a cheetah print scarf

On My Feet: I have spiked bracelets from both Aldo and Charlotte Russe.  Put them on your ankle for a little extra oomph

On My Hand: Studded Bracelet from Forever 21.  My bag is from Aldo

Jacket: The jacket itself is from Forever 21.  To add a little something extra, I grabbed some stud earrings from Aldo and stuck them on the pockets.

Necklace and Earrings: I wore Forever 21 jewelry.  The necklace is wrapped around my neck to add layering.  I have two sets of earrings on

Hair and Makeup: DONE BY ME!!

Me and my Mama. She managed “Team Gianna” and turned out to have a pageant mom hidden inside her

Me and my Boy

What I Learned: I had the most awesome outfit I’ve ever put together.  Even though I didn’t win, I felt like I did.  My whole family was there to support me, and I know that I’ll still make it big in fashion.  I did some DIY, had the greatest hair there, and bought leather tuxedo pants all in one night.  How could I be sad?

Outfit Inspiration: For those of you who will sit here and read all of this, here you go.  I knew going in to the competition what I wanted to wear.  First of all, tuxedo pants.  I’ve always wanted a Tom Ford women’s tuxedo.  It’s classic style and looks so chic if you do it right.  Second of all, I love retro.  So I knew I had to somehow put that little bit of style in there.  That’s how the hair and makeup came to be.

PS: Congratulations to Anna, Leslie, and Anna for winning each of their rounds.  Their outfits were awesome.  This was a search for the next Trendsetter and their outfits all showed off how they’re wearing what they love in fashion.

Ok, readers I’m in big need of your help!

Oh and just so you all know, I’ve been tapping into the DIY trend lately.  I painted the bottom of my sneakers with some nail polish I bought at H&M.  Let’s me change the color as much as I want and get a good manicure, too!

Theme of my outfit:

What is there to say?  Nothing.  I am speechless.  No: I can actually go on rambling for paragraphs upon paragraphs on how wonderful these photographs are.  They are done by the group Atelier Olschinsky.  It’s part of a group of photos under the title Innocentia.

First of all, the red.  Oh, all of that red just gets me far too excited.  The designer of all of these garments, Susanne Bisovsky, is a genius in my mind.  Yes, these were taken a bit of time ago but that doesn’t make it any less wonderful.  Plus, it’s exactly the style I have been looking for lately.  It’s very Dolce and Gabbana, no?  There is comfort and loads of lace and flowers.  Plus there is that old-country feeling mixed with fresh youth.

I just know a painting or drawing is going to sprout out of my head from this….

BRAIDS

What is so hard about this concept?  I guess for a girl, it’s a little easier.  But I do remember being a little girl and having no clue at all about how I was going to make one of those so called “braids” in my hair.  What did I do?  I figured it out.  Sure, I make them correctly now but I still can’t tackle the whole Fishtail braid thing….

If you grew up with men or are currently close to one, ask them if they know how to make a braid.  Chances are, they have an idea but don’t really know the true art of it.  Hey, a lot of men do know but not the ones in my family or the ones I have been friends with for a while.   Imagine my amazement when I ask my boyfriend to help me out and braid my hair….. and he knew how to do it!

This little post is a tribute for all you guys out there who know how to make a braid.  Some may say I am getting way too excited, and other may find me way too appreciative.

And if you boys out there don’t know how to make one, LEARN!

Went to Miami this past weekend…. and it was wonderful.  I haven’t been there in far too long so I was going a little crazy.  Activities included:

  • Marlins Game
  • The Beach
  • Shopping at Dadeland Mall
  • Eating huge amounts of croquetas and food
  • The Beach again
  • Seeing all of my family

Oh, and here’s my outfit from my last night there:

Yes, that is a little sunburn on my face.  Don’t judge me, please!  I haven’t been in the sun in months.  Anyways, this was such an easy look to make: little bit of white Make Up Forever Aquacream on my lids and some mascara.  Lastly, lipliner in brown.  DONE.

Shirt: Forever 21.  Necklace: it was a gift from whoknowswhere.  Earrings: H&M.
