Obsess Over Everything

This past week, I opened a show in Oakland, CA for First Fridays.  It was so much fun and my first exhibit on the West Coast!  I had a bit of help with some of the bigger installation, and for the first time went on scaffolding.  Since I’m a short little lady, I was terrified of being so high off the ground.  But I did it and everything turned out so perfect.  Really, I don’t think I’ve ever had an easier install and it’s all thanks to the awesome, generous people from the gallery.  There’s an espresso bar connected, so I suggest to anyone from the area to stop by!  The show is at Hat Rac Gallery up from June 6- July 25.

Every first Friday of the month, galleries in Garfield/Friendship open up for a big gallery crawl.  Needless to say, I go every month.  Now, I have to tell you that these galleries have improved so much from when I first started going.  Last night, I found myself gushing over so many pieces I saw.  I’m so hard to please in that sense so that’s quite the accomplishment.  Not only that, it’s far more professional than it used to be.  Can’t wait for next month!  The other plus is getting to meet all sorts of interesting people and run into old friends while walking around. I have so many ideas in my little brain that are dying to get out.  There’s nothing better for an artist than going to a big opening like this: it makes you want to actually go out and tell the world what you’re making.

Last night I went to an opening at the PCA.  They were having a number of artists show their work which is always fun to go see.  I like seeing a bundle of different artists’ work sometimes instead of always going to a solo show or specifically themed gallery show.  Well, you get the point- I liked what I saw.  Normally, I would go to this anyways  but one of the professors in my major, Kenneth Batista, was showing there.  It’s always nice to show support.
